The complexity of the astronomical knowledge depicted on the Sky Disc amazed experts. Up until the decryption of the disc it was merely attributed to advanced civilisations such as Egypt or Babylon – but not in Central Germany.
In the first two phases the Sky Disc was an object that recorded scientific or astronomical observations. The Sky Disc loses its scientific sobriety with the mounting of the solar ship. The disc becomes a cult object.
The Sky Disc was used for several centuries. It was in the possession of important personalities who belonged to a culture with numerous innovations and displayed prosperity.
Discovered by treasure hunters, sold on the black market and seized in a spectacular rescue operation: the story of the discovery of the Sky Disc reads like a thrilling detective novel.
Let yourself be carried away on a journey in a bygone era. The Sky Paths combine four archaeologically significant sites which can be explored. The history of mankind was written here.

The Nebra Sky Disc depicts the world’s oldest portrayal of the sky known so far. The disc with a diameter measuring 32 cm was made in the Early Bronze Age around 1900 BC. After that it was in use for about 300 years. In this time its owners revised it several times and altered its content-related significance. On it is an encrypted intercalary rule which makes it possible to harmonise the solar and lunar year. It also enables insights into the conception of the world of our ancestors for the first time. That also makes it a discovery of the century! It was buried on the Mittelberg near Nebra together with other valuable objects about 3,600 years ago.
